Those Red-Heads!

Some time ago, while visiting the SIL in Missouri, I managed to catch sight of this Pileated Woodpecker on top of the electric pole in her yard...

This was not the first one I had ever seen in the wild, but it is the first one I managed to capture in a photo!

Great pictures of one of my all time favourite birds - I have only seen them on trips to the USA - no woodpeckers of any sort in Australia - so it’s good to bump in to one on line!

...wishing I could see one like that. Now I have to get out my bird book to see if they're even IN our area.

Beautiful shots Linda.

Now Linda you say 'her' yard, are you assuming it's a 'she' because of the rather chic coiffe haha! Well done on capturing her way up there.

Nice photos. I saw one of these for the first time a couple of years ago in a friends yard. I tried to capture a photo but he wouldn't stick around for a photo shoot. :0)

It is hard to catch them on film isn't it? Nice shot! Thanks for sharing :)

There was a time when I wanted very much to be a red-head. Maybe a little bit more auburn than this. :-) Fortunate shot!

Nice captures of the Pileated Woodpecker Linda! These huge woodpeckers are one of my favorite birds to see, maybe because where I live they are secretive and hard to find ;-)

Pileateds are awesome birds. We see quit we a few of them here.
Great shot of the bird but I think you should tell the power company that their pole is rotten.
